Jesus said to His followers, "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men" (Matthew 5:13).

Freeze Dried Blood Packs for Soldiers

Israeli scientists have recently developed freeze dried blood packs for soldiers using the soldiers own blood.

At present, combat medics and doctors are forced to use a SALINE solution in transfusions on the battlefield until the wounded soldier can be evacuated to a regular medical facility.

One of the most essential elements that humans need to live is salt. In its natural form, the human body required salt because salt regulates the passage of nutrients into the cells of our body. Without these nutrients, the cells would not be healthy and our bodies would suffer from malnutrition and exhaustion.

In Bible times, salt was harder to harvest than it is today so it was not as available. The most common method of obtaining salt was mining. It was also produced by evaporating sea water and then removing the slats from the sediment. The salt was then washed, purified and crushed to make it useful.

Are You Worth Your Salt?

Because it was so scarce and valuable, salt was often used as money.Caesar sometimes paid his soldiers with salt. This salt payment was known as "salarium" from which we get the word "salary."The expression "not worth his salt" meant the worker was not working hard enough to earn his wage-his salt.

Because salt was necessary for life, and because of its lasting, preserving, purifying and flavoring characteristics, ancient people considered it a sacred commodity.

Salt was life.

People used it in their offerings to their gods, in healing, to ward off evil spirits, as a sign of honor, friendship and hospitality, and as part of blessings and curses. As the salt of the earth, believers impart the life of God to others. We preserve spiritual life and hinder the decay of spiritual death. We purify the spiritual conditions around us. We are the salt of the earth.
